The tragic loss of Kotoko fan Nana Pooley, whose real name is Francis Frimpong, during a violent incident at Nsoatreman FC’s home ground has sparked legal and security concerns.

Private legal practitioner Enoch Afoakwah has stated that the victim’s family has grounds to take legal action against both the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the host club.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show monitored by MyNewsGh, Afoakwah emphasized that event security failures cannot be overlooked.

“In matters of this nature, security checks are key. So certainly, the police service and the management cannot exculpate themselves. If people can enter stadiums with knives or other implements, then the police and stadium management must also answer for this failure,” he said.

Beyond the immediate tragedy, he noted that Ghana’s legal landscape is shifting, and stakeholders must take responsibility for ensuring public safety at football matches.

“The jurisprudence of Ghana is evolving, and the courts are increasingly ruling on these matters.

Property owners, event organizers, and security agencies must adopt stricter safety protocols to avoid massive lawsuits and compensations,” he added.

Nana Pooley succumbed to knife wounds during a Ghana Premier League match between Nsoatreman FC and Kumasi Asante Kotoko FC at Nsoatre in the Bono Region.
