Six health unions have petitioned the Ministry of Health against extending the tenure of Dr. Opoku Ware Ampomah as Chief Executive Officer of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
The unions comprise the Health Service Workers Union, Ghana Federation of Allied Health Professionals of Korle Bu chapter, Health Accounting Staff Association of Ghana, Korle Bu Senior Staff Association, Government and Hospital Pharmacists Association and Ghana Registered Nursing and Midwives Association.
In a statement dated Friday, July 26, 2024, the unions cited highlighted several reasons for their opposition, including inefficiencies in the CEO’s absence, resulting in operational paralysis, delays in approvals leading to shortages of essential supplies and conflict of interest, with the CEO’s interests conflicting with hospital goals amongst others.
The unions have warned that extending the CEO’s tenure would harm the hospital’s progress and the well-being of staff and patients.
