A lecturer at the University of Ghana and political marketing expert, Prbby Kobby Mensah, has complained about the state of secondary education in Ghana.
In his estimation, secondary education is collapsing in the country.
His premise or research to reach this conclusion was not provided in the post he shared via social media.
He said, “Ghana, our secondary schools are collapsing!”.
However, the comments on the post suggested several Ghanaians have problems with the implementation of the Free SHS policy.
They could not fathom why students have to stay home for as long as three months for vacation which was not the case in the past.
Most people who reacted to the post were of the view that the government could have absorbed just tuition while parents were made to pay for some of the components of free senior high school education for their kids.
One comment said “This is A FACT and as mother I can testify to this . I’m all about good and quality education for my kids and will stop at nothing to do that . In 2019 I took my kids to a private Catholic SHS ( Our Lady of Grace Senior High School, Mamponteng ) . When my kids went there , they had a few buses leaving Accra to Kumasi today parents re willing to pay as much as 5000gh ( the last fees I paid for my lil son before I moved them to the states). It was very pathetic with the way students stay home for more than 3 months before they go back to classroom. Parents who can afford re paying for private tuition for their wards during those periods.
That WASSCE results , most of it from the private school but government will do propaganda with it and it’s as if they marking scheme has been lowered down just pass students tru but the real deal is in the universities where such students re struggling. It’s really sad n pathetic on the other hand u will find a fool soldier defending this . I have said that this particular government has raised more educated fools than any other government cos u can’t get a single level headed individual who puts their partisan lenses somewhere and think abt the future of this country. They re all abt their personal interests n amassing wealth for their next generation”.
