A National Democratic Congress (NDC) spokesperson on creative arts, Rex Omar, has disclosed that GHARMRO works with the developers of the Ghana Music Xperience (GMX) streaming platform.
According to him, the developers of the streaming platform consult for the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) to help them generate revenue for artistes signed with the organization.
“GHAMRO also works with the owner of Ghana Music Xperience. He is helping us to digitize the organization. We have written to the government to support us. The government has promised us of their support, which is yet to come,” he said.
Rex Omar indicated that although it is a great initiative as it is also another source of revenue, the over-politicization of the streaming platform is what must be condemned.
“Even if the government has given the owners some money based on what? In Ghana we have Aftown, Uprise and other private initiatives. It is a good thing, but the way it has been politicized is what is not good. The app is a good thing, but the way they have politicized it is what is not the best,” he said.
Adding that “The app is for a private person, and so the way they have politicized it as if the NPP government introduced it is wrong.”
