Former NDC organizer declares war on  galamseyers

The former National organizer of the New Democratic Congress (NDC), Yaw Boateng Gyan has declared war on  persons involved in Galamsey in Ghana henceforth

During an interview on Okay FM over the galamsey menace, he lamented over the deplorable state of the water bodies and the forest reserves that are fast being destroyed.

He further lamented that the fight against galamsey is becoming difficult because those involved in the act are leaders from the top and some parliamentarians.

“If you look at the current state of water bodies and the forest reserves you get angry. If i catch anyone doing galamsey, unless the person beats me we shall slug it out.  A lot of leaders in parliament who are supposed to fight galamsey are involved in the act”, he claimed

In the late hours of Thursday, September 12, 2024, President Akufo-Addo ordered the deployment of a combined team of armed police and military forces to combat unlawful small-scale mining as pressure mounts for immediate action.

The decision was made following a national security summit to evaluate the impact of galamsey on rivers and the environment.

On Wednesday, organized labor issued a warning to the government, threatening a statewide walkout by the end of September unless serious action is taken to solve the rising galamsey situation.

Speaking to the media about the development, Lands and Natural Resources Minister Samuel Abu Jinapor stated that the President has also authorized the removal of illegal mining equipment if necessary.
