Former coach Javier Clemente doubts Nico Williams' departure from Athletic Bilbao amidst Barcelona interest
Former Athletic Bilbao coach Javier Clemente has expressed skepticism over the potential transfer of Spanish-born Ghanaian winger Nico Williams to Barcelona. In a recent interview with ElDesmarque on their Twitch channel, Clemente shared his thoughts on the ongoing speculation linking Williams to the Catalan giants.Clemente acknowledged the interest from big clubs like Barcelona, recognizing Williams' exceptional talent and speed, making him one of Spain's best wingers. He noted, "The big clubs, even though they sometimes make bad signings and pay a lot of money, see that Nico Williams is one of the best wingers in Spain, a young boy with great skill and speed."However, Clemente believes that the strong bond between Nico and his brother Ghanaian striker Iñaki Williams, who also plays for Athletic Bilbao, could be a significant barrier to any potential move. "Nico is very identified with Athletic and although I don't know him personally, I do know his brother Iñaki, I see that they are both very united and I don't think they will separate so easily," he added.
