Joyce Bawa Mogtari, Special Aide to former President John Dramani Mahama, has criticized the Electoral Commission (EC) over the recent shortage of ballot papers in the Volta Region, calling it a clear sign of the EC’s incompetence.

In an interview with the media, Joyce Bawa expressed her concerns about the incident, which affected several constituencies, including Keta, Ketu North, Ho Central, Hohoe, and Ho West.

The shortages were identified on Thursday, November 28, when the EC acknowledged a deficit in both presidential and parliamentary ballot papers.

“This is not the first time we’ve pointed out that the Electoral Commission is not up to the task,” Joyce Bawa remarked during an interview at the Legal Green Forum for attorneys and law students.

“They are not acting like an independent body. We’ve always suspected this because so many partisans are parading as commissioners. I’m glad these mistakes have been noticed, as they further highlight the EC’s incompetence.”

She went on to question the transparency of the EC’s processes, stating that reports from printing houses indicate that more ballots were being printed than necessary.

“The beauty of this is that we are now very vigilant. Every step of the way, we’ve worked hard to expose the EC’s biases and incompetence,” she added.

Joyce Bawa also expressed confidence in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) securing a victory in the upcoming December 7 elections, asserting that the party was fully prepared.

“We are ready to win, as our poll workers have received precise training,” she stated, adding that the NDC will ensure every ballot is safeguarded, as Ghanaians are eager for change.
