Lawyers of the Peoples National Convention (PNC) have appealed to the Electoral Commission not to certify the People’s National Party (PNP).
They are of the belief that the name sounds similar and will be confusing to voters.
What’s even more worrying is the fact that the founders of the PNP were Executives of the PNC.
“Since the executives of the PNP are former executives of the PNC, together with the history between the erstwhile PNP and PNC earlier canvassed, it will leave no doubt in the minds of electorates that the new PNP and PNC are one and the same,” the statement read in parts.
They also complained bitterly about the emblem of the new political party indicating that the use of a palmnut tree just like that of PNC will affect the fortunes of the old political party.
“The use of the palm nut tree as an emblem for the newly formed party PNP will further confuse the electorates leaving them to believe that the PNC and PNP are one and the same.”
