'Black Stars are picking up gradually' – Nii Lante Vaderpuye despite poor AFCON qualifying start
Former Sports Minister Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye has expressed optimism that the Black Stars are improving gradually despite their poor start to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.The team failed to win their second successive qualifier on Monday, September 9, 2024, as Niger scored late to hold Ghana to a 1-1 draw at the Municipal Stadium in Morocco.This draw follows an earlier 1-0 defeat to Angola at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.However, Vanderpuye claims there are positives from the game.“Black Stars are not yet a finished product, but gradually they're picking up and hopefully we can improve further and secure qualification,” he told Akoma FM.This results have now left Ghana third in Group F of the qualifiers for the Morocco tournament next year.Angola are top of the group with six points while Sudan has three after Angola beat Sudan 2-1 in their second game ahead of their game later today in Luanda.The next round of qualifiers will be played in October against Sudan, with the first leg to be played in Ghana.
