Ghanaian musician, Dr Cryme has opined that betting among the youth is worsening despite the ban on betting companies from using celebrities in their advertisement or as ambassadors.

“Betting that you are banning celebrities not to endorse, even ordinary people on the streets know a lot about how to arrange their odds and they don’t even need celebrities to teach them,” he told Amansan Krakye..

The Ghana Gaming Commission has explained that it was due to the increasing number of celebrities endorsing betting companies – an action many say could lure young fans into gambling.

Dr Cryme continued”Some people on the streets even arrange the betting odds so perfectly that they even give some of the odds to some celebrities and musicians also to stake their bets”.

However, the ‘Twi Pop 5 Star’ rapper strongly believes that the solution to preventing the youth from engaging in betting doesn’t only depend on banning celebrities from endorsing it.

“Most often when we come out with laws about what we want to achieve in the long run we don’t normally come out with solutions but just we look out for short-term preventive measures,” he posited.
