Bawumia unveils bold vision at new Nkwanta North assembly complex opening

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), inaugurated a new assembly complex for the Nkwanta North District in Ghana’s Oti region on Sunday (27 October), urging residents to rally behind his bid for the presidency in the upcoming elections.

The new complex, he said, is a testament to the NPP government’s commitment to building infrastructure that meets the needs of all Ghanaians.

Addressing a large crowd, Bawumia emphasised the NPP administration’s record on development, positioning it as unparalleled in the country’s history.

“President [Nana] Akufo-Addo’s government has done so much in infrastructural development,” he said.

“No government has performed well when it comes to infrastructure development than the NPP-led administration by Nana Addo.”

He pointed to the region’s creation under the NPP as evidence of the party’s commitment to equitable development across Ghana, pledging to continue these initiatives if elected.

Bawumia contrasted his approach with what he termed a lack of direction from former president John Dramani Mahama

He described Mahama as a “second-hand president” with little to offer beyond a single term, urging residents to choose progress by voting for a Bawumia-led administration.

The NPP flagbearer outlined an ambitious agenda focused on economic opportunity and technological advancement.

He promised to introduce policies that could reshape sectors across Ghana, including a plan to train one million young people in IT skills, expand solar energy production with zero import duty on panels, and move towards a streamlined flat-rate system at the ports.

He also pledged free tertiary education for people with disabilities, STEM-focused reforms in schools, and enhanced support for local businesses like small-scale food vendors and farmers, who would benefit from access to equipment and trade support initiatives.

“A Bawumia presidency will facilitate opportunities for all Ghanaians,” he declared.

“From the young person dreaming about the future and receiving the quality education necessary for the Fourth Industrial Revolution to the ‘gobe’ seller at the junction who needs a little capital from the Trade Empowerment Fund to the farmer who will enjoy the benefits of increased access to farm tools and knowledge from the District Agric Mechanisation Centres.”

As his campaign tour continued across the Oti region, Bawumia extended his gratitude to the people of the Nkwanta North, Nkwanta South, and Akan constituencies for their warm reception, encouraging them to support both his candidacy and the NPP parliamentary candidates in the 7 December elections.

Nkwanta North District Chief Executive (DCE) William Kidignang Nawugma also expressed thanks to the vice president, pledging that the new assembly complex would be maintained and serve the community as intended.

However, Bawumia’s campaign tour of the Oti region was temporarily interrupted by an emergency meeting in Accra.
