AU, GABI partner to advance development across Africa

The African Union Commission and the Global Africa Business Initiative (GABI) have renewed commitments to advancing development across the African continent.

The partnership was formalised with the exchange of a Letter of Intent between ambassador Albert Muchanga, the AU commissioner for trade and Sanda Ojiambo, CEO of the UN Global Compact, at the Global Africa Business Initiative event during the African Union’s 6th Mid-Year Coordination Meeting in Accra, Ghana.

This commitment seeks to drive sustainable business across Africa by aligning with the UN Global Compact’s Africa Strategy and to create a robust network of African companies committed to responsible business practices, playing a crucial role in capitalising on Africa’s economic potential while ensuring inclusive and sustainable growth.

It will also strengthen collaboration and advance mutual goals in the AU 2024 Agenda for Education and GABI’s 2024 themes, as well as a broader, longer-term partnership in line with Agenda 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Ambassador Muchanga stated that, “By joining forces with the UN Global Compact, we are reinforcing our commitment to sustainable business and economic growth across Africa. Together, we aim to create a dynamic economic environment that supports inclusive progress and empowers African nations to achieve their full potential.”
