Article: Dr Bawumia, like King Cyrus, is the “Anointed One”

Throughout mankind’s history, God has chosen, in his own wisdom at his own time, to use men, women, and children, among others, to achieve his plans and purposes. This power exercised by God has been his sole preserve, and there are no records to demonstrate that God ever made these choices in consultation with any man, called or uncalled.

Even though God used King David to fight many, many victorious battles, he chose Solomon, a son of David born out of wedlock, to build him a temple, though David had six “legitimate” children: Amnon, by Ahinoam, Daniel, by Abigail, Absalom by Maachah, Adonijah, by Haggith, Shephatiah, by Abital and Ithream, by Eglah.

The Apostle Paul is credited with the writings of most of the epistles in the New Testament, and biblical records show that he is the most influential Apostle that was ever used by God from all available Christian records. However, he started out as the chief tormentor of the church, carrying out acts of terrorism and impunity against the Churches that existed in his days.

Inspite of the clear shortfalls of King David and Apostle Paul, God still chose to use them to realize some of the most profound biblical achievements ever recorded in the scriptures. This is certainly supported by the scripture reference in Matthew 19:26 (KJV), which says: “Jesus beheld them and said unto them, with men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.

Perhaps the most consequential event in scripture that exemplifies the circumstances of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is God’s decision to use King Cyrus, the non-Judeo-Christian king of Persia, to protect His people, the Jews. Even though King Cyrus was clearly non-Jewish, when it came to fulfilling the return of the Jews from exile to their homeland, God fell on him (King Cyrus).

In Isaiah 44:28 (KJV), the Bible says, “That saith of Cyrus, He is My Shepherd and shall perform all my pleasure: even saying to Jerusalem, thou shalt be built; and to the temple, thy foundation shall be laid.”

Again, in Isaiah 45:1-6 (KJV), it is recorded as follows concerning King Cyrus;

“[1] Thus saith the LORD to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have holden, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut;

“[2] I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:

“[3] And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the LORD, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.

“[4] For Jacob my servant’s sake, and Israel mine elect, I have even called thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me.

“[5] I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:

“[6] That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else.”

It is intriguing that God used the term “His Anointed,” which was reserved only for the Messiah (His Son Jesus Christ), to refer to King Cyrus. In effect, God was going to empower King Cyrus by His Spirit to undertake some geopolitical exploits for the sake of His (God’s people, the Jews).

It is also revealing to observe that God said He had decided to use (Surnamed) King Cyrus even though “he the King has not known Him (God).”

“I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me,” the scripture reference read. (Isiah 45:4)

Similarly, the writer is of the conviction that God has anointed and empowered Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and serving as Vice President of Ghana (Ghana’s King Cyrus), to make a difference in Ghana’s political landscape as a Muslim in a predominantly Christian nation.

God is able to complete the building of the National Cathedral through Dr Mahamudu Bawumia (DMB). In retrospect, when the Jews returned from exile, the magnificent temple erected by Solomon was destroyed. Two of the returnees, Zerubbabel and Joshua, started the rebuilding process.

Herod, a Gentile King, subsequently took up the rebuilding of the temple, even though it took a long time before its completion. God is able to use any leader whose heart is right before Him to fulfill His purposes.

I submit to all Christians and Muslims alike that the God we both say we believe in can use anyone at his own time according to his pleasure.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, in the writer’s view, is one of such men that God has decided to use at this time to propel Ghana into her era of prosperity, unprecedented transformation, and unparalleled development.
