Akufo-Addo hitting campaign trail for Bawumia important, says Kofi Tonto

President Nana Akufo-Addo is set to spearhead a nationwide campaign for New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate Mahamudu Bawumia and his running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, ahead of the 2024 general election. 

The campaign is scheduled to kick off on Wednesday (2 October), starting in the Upper East and Upper West Regions.

Reports indicate that Akufo-Addo plans to visit all 16 regions before the polls on 7 December, highlighting the achievements of his administration as a key pillar of the NPP’s electoral strategy.

Speaking on Asaase Radio’s 12 O’Clock Report, Kofi Tonto, a political aide to Bawumia, emphasised the significance of the president’s involvement in the campaign. 

“This election will be run on the back of his record and therefore, we cannot pretend to say that he shouldn’t participate in the campaign,” Tonto stated.

“For the last eight years this government has run on his vision and on his leadership; the achievements that we are touting are all his records and therefore there’s no better person to tout and to sort of speak to Ghanaians and account for these achievements better than his excellency, the president,” he added.

With the 2024 general election fast approaching, the NPP is positioning Akufo-Addo’s legacy as a central theme, aiming to secure a third consecutive term in government with Bawumia at the helm.
