A regional minister must be seen as a national leader – Kojo Yankah

Veteran politician and former regional minister Kojo Yankah has delivered a strong critique of partisanship in Ghana’s governance, emphasizing the need for regional leaders to transcend political, ethnic, and religious divides.

Mr Yankah drew from his own experience to highlight the importance of inclusive leadership during an interview on the Asaase Breakfast Show (ABS),

“In all the regions, there are various types of classes of people: people in parties, people in religions, people in ethnic groups,” Yankah said during the interview.

“As a regional minister, you have to be seen as a national person and not one person to any partisan group or any particular ethnic group.”

Yankah reflected on his tenure as a regional minister, describing his efforts to foster unity across diverse communities.

“It is that attitude that helped me to operate in the Ashanti Region very successfully, in my opinion. I think I also did the same in the Central Region while I was there,” he noted.

His comments come amid ongoing concerns about partisanship and favouritism in Ghana’s political landscape, particularly at the regional level.
