2025 AFCON Qualifiers: Ghana FA explains Patric Pfeiffer’s omission from Ghana squad

Communication Director of the Ghana Football Association, Henry Asante Twum has revealed that defender Patric Pfeiffer was excluded from the Black Stars squad for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers due to injury.

Ghana coach, Otto Addo on Thursday announced his 23-man squad for games against Angola and Niger, omitting the highly-rated Young Boys defender.

Pfeiffer was looking forward to making the Ghana squad for the Angola and Niger games after recently earning his Ghanaian passport.

Despite switching allegiance to Ghana in 2022, his debut for the Black Stars has delayed due to passport issues.

Explaining the exclusion of Pfeiffer, Henry Asante Twum confirmed the on loan Augsburg defender has picked up a muscle injury, making him unavailable for the games next month.

He joins Kamaldeen Sulemana, Ernest Nuamah, Salis Abdul Samed and Gideon Mensah on the sidelines and will not be involved in the upcoming games.

Notable players like Thomas Partey, Mohammed Kudus, Antoine Semenyo, Mohammed Salisu, Jordan Ayew and others have all been named in the squad.

Captain, Andre Ayew, who is currently a free agent has for the second time being overlooked by the technical handlers of the team for the second time running.

The Black Stars will face Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium on September 5 before travelling to take on Niger in Morocco on September 9.

The AFCON qualifiers are crucial for the Black Stars, who are seeking to secure a spot in the tournament.

It is important to note that the two top countries from each group will secure automatic qualification to the CAF biggest competition on the continent.
