Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Frederick Asare has been named in the Black Stars squad for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola and Niger.

The Porcupine Warriors shot stopper is the only home-based player to have earned a place in Otto Addo’s 23-man squad released on Thursday afternoon at the Ghana’s Football Association headquarters.

Asare was part of the squad that played against Mali and Central Africa Republic in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in June.

Despite being inactive for few weeks, he has named in the squad for the two crucial games next month.

Notable players like Thomas Partey, Mohammed Kudus, Antoine Semenyo, Mohammed Salisu, Jordan Ayew and others have all been named in the squad.

Captain, Andre Ayew, who is currently a free agent has for the second time being overlooked by the technical handlers of the team.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars will be without some key players including, Kamaldeen Sulemana, Salis Abdul Samed, Ernest Nuamah and Gideon Mensah due to injury setbacks.

The Black Stars will face Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium on September 5 before travelling to take on Niger in Morocco on September 9.

The AFCON qualifiers are crucial for the Black Stars, who are seeking to secure a spot in the tournament.

It is important to note that the two top countries from each group will secure automatic qualification to the CAF biggest competition on the continent.
