The Tema West Municipal Election Officer, John Nunoo, declared NDC’s Ebi Bright as the winner of the parliamentary election in Tema Central with a vote of 18, 539 as against NPP’s Charles Forson, who obtained 18, 421.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP), has rejected the collated parliamentary results announced by the Electoral Commission (EC) for the Tema Central constituency in Greater Accra.
The collation of the results which started at the Chemu Senior High Technical School on Saturday (7 December) night had to be continued at the Tema Regional Police Command on Monday, 9 December 2024, following disagreements which led to the firing of teargas by the police, leading to the collapse of one of the EC officials in the early hours of Sunday.
NPP and NDC officials disagreed over the accuracy of figures on three of the 148 pink sheets used in the tabulation during the collation process, which was overseen by Manasseh Ofosuhene Asante, the Tema Metro Electoral Officer, and took place on the grounds of the Tema Regional Police Headquarters.
NDC representatives at the meeting, led by Rockson-Nelson Etse Kwami Dafeamekpor, the South Dayi constituency’s Member of Parliament, pointed out certain pink sheets and objected to their inclusion, claiming that the presiding officers at those polling places had not approved them.
Charles Boateng, the party’s constituency chairman, insisted that the controversial pink sheets be included in the tabulation in order to guarantee accuracy in the final results, despite the NPP officials being present at the collation table.
Forson maintained that the NPP’s internal analysis of the pink sheets from all 148 polling places in the constituency proved he won the election. He also threatened to take the parliamentary results to court if a planned meeting at the EC office in Accra on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, failed to overturn what he called an unlawful declaration made in favour of Ebi Bright.
