Western Region surprises Akufo-Addo with statue of himself

The Chief, Elders, and people of the Western Region on Wednesday, 6 November 2024, pulled a surprise on President Akufo-Addo when they ushered him to unveil a statue of himself at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi. The statue according to handlers of the President, was a surprise to him.

An inquiry by the media into the rationale behind the gesture revealed that the people of Sekondi-Takoradi led by Omanhene of Lower Dixcove Nana Agyeman, and the head of the Western Regional House of Chiefs suggested some time ago that something be done to thank the President for his contribution to the growth of the Western Region, especially the construction of roads which had been avoided by previous governments.

Following this decision of the Chiefs and Elders, the Regional Minister came up with the idea of a statue at the roundabout which was subsequently constructed to honour President Akufo-Addo.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo unveiled the statue at the entrance of Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi as part of his one-day “thank you” tour of the Western Region.

“There are some people who are ungrateful for the good things you have done but we the Chiefs, Elders and people of Sekondi Takoradi are grateful for all the projects you have initiated in our region. Some of them are not completed but they have already transformed the region and we are very grateful for your good work in our region,” Nana Agyeman, Omanhene of Lower Dixcove said in his remarks welcoming the President to Sekondi Takoradi.

Western Regional Minister Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah in his statement on the monument indicated that it is essentially to honour the President for his initiatives in the Western Region especially, the rehabilitation of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital, the construction of a 3-tier Sinohydro interchange, and the redevelopment of the Takoradi Market Circle.

Addressing the Chiefs, Elders and residents of Sekondi-Takoradi, President Akufo-Addo highlighted his achievements since taking office, noting that he has fulfilled up to 80% of his promises to Ghanaians when he asked for their mandate in 2016.
Akufo-Addo urged the people of Sekondi-Takoradi to voter for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President and presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming 7 December elections to allow the NPP to continue with its good works.
