Sports Ministry directs GFA to present UG Stadium to CAF for Black Stars Games

Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif has directed the Ghana Football Association to present the University of Ghana Stadium to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for inspection and consideration for Ghana’s next AFCON qualifying games.

CAF withdrew its acceptance of the Kumasi Baba Yara Sports Stadium on September 11, 2024, since it did not meet the standard requirement for international football.

The Ghana Football Association was provided with an ultimatum to provide CAF with an alternative venue for CAF-sanctioned national team games.

A statement from the Sports Ministry directed the country’s FA to inform CAF of the availability of the University of Ghana Sports Stadium for Ghana’s international matches.

The Ministry, in its statement, argued that CAF has not inspected the University of Ghana Stadium for Category 3 matches and is optimistic that since it has been able to host a Category 2 match, it can host a Category 3 match.

The Ministry assured the people of Ghana of upgrading the country’s sporting facilities.
