Samartex forward Baba Musah Hamadu has expressed optimism about his outfit chances ahead of their CAF Champions League opener against Victoria United.

The Timber giants will lock horns with the Cameroonian club on Sunday, August 18, 2024, as they begin their Champions League campaign.

The Ghana champions will return to face Victoria United in reverse fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium a week later.

Ahead of the game, Baba Musah affirmed his outfit will make Ghanaians proud as they embark on their maiden African campaign.

“I didn’t know Victoria United until we were paired against them. I watched and made enquiries about them. Our technical team are working on them as well. We are preparing hard for Victoria United. We are not under pressure going into this game and I believe we can do something to make Ghana proud” he said.

The team touched down in Douala, Cameroon on early Thursday morning for the much-anticipated clash slated for Sunday.

The Ghanaian champions are representing Ghana for the first time in the CAF elite competition after emerging as champions in the recently concluded Ghana Premier League season, dethroning Medeama.

The winner of the tie between the Ghanaian outfit and Victoria United will progress to the second preliminary round where they potentially face Moroccan giants Raja Club Athletic for a place in the group stages.
