Former President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has given the surest of assurances to Nursing trainees that his government will rather prioritize job creation.
He is of the view that allowances are not what nursing trainees need but jobs after they have left school.
To him, the backlog of nurses at home is a worry and therefore his strategy of cancelling allowances could have helped in providing jobs.
The NDC flagbearer was addressing some trainee nurses when he made this known.
”We know the problems with trainee nurses and that is why when we were in government we said we were going to substitute your allowances with the students loan. That is because we wanted to create more employment for you. The important thing is not the allowance but it is to get the job when you finish school,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Finance Ministry has given clearance for the employment of 15,200 nurses across the country.
