NDC raises alarm over alleged misuse of public funds by outgoing minister Adutwum

Abass Nurudeen has raised serious concerns regarding alleged misuse of public funds by Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the outgoing Minister of Education, amidst the political transition in Ghana.

The NDC is preparing to assume office under President-elect John Dramani Mahama on January 7, 2025, but allegations of financial mismanagement are already making waves.

“We have been reliably informed about the intentions to sponsor certain individuals on trips to the UK with business class for holidays,” the Ashanti Regional Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) said.

He went on to say, “These actions, if true, represent a blatant abuse of office, a misuse of public funds, and a betrayal of the trust Ghanaians placed in you.”

His strong words were aimed at Dr. Adutwum, who has served as Education Minister for the outgoing government, but is now facing scrutiny as the country heads into a new administration.

Abass emphasized that such actions, if proven, would be a gross violation of the public trust, reminding those in power that their position is not a personal privilege.

“Let me remind you that your position is a public trust, not a personal privilege. Your primary duty is to serve the people of Ghana, not to advance personal or political interests,” he asserted, highlighting the ethical responsibility of government officials.

The allegations come at a crucial time as Ghana prepares for a change in leadership. With the new administration on the horizon, the NDC is vowing to restore integrity and transparency in government operations.

However, Abass’s accusations reflect deep concerns within the opposition party regarding the conduct of outgoing officials as the political landscape shifts.
