National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) Salam Mustapha has said that former President John Mahama’s claim that he left a Ford Expedition vehicle that had been gifted to him by a Burkinabé contractor in the pool of vehicles at the Presidency is false.
Salam Mustapha, speaking in an interview on Home Radio in the Upper West Region, revealed that his checks at the Presidency in 2017 when he accompanied the Vice President to the seat of Government, the Flagstaff House, show that the vehicle in question was not left at the Presidency.
“It’s a lie. When we went to the Flagstaff House. It was not there. The first day the President and the Vice President walked into the Flagstaff House, I was there… There was no Ford there,” he said.
Former President John Mahama was, in 2016, found to have received a gift of a Ford Expedition vehicle from a Burkinabé contractor, Djibril Kanazoé. The NPP characterised the car as a bribe to secure lucrative contracts. But the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) subsequently cleared John Mahama of bribery and corruption after investigating the matter.
The Former President, commenting on the issue much later after he had handed over the reins of power to the NPP Government, noted that he had put the vehicle into the pool of vehicles at the Presidency and had left it there when he exited power.
