National Communications Team Member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kwesi Botchway has described former president John Mahama as dishonest and full of deceit.
During a discussion on Joy Prime’s morning show while assessing the manifestos of political parties who have officially launched theirs, the NPP spokesperson disclosed that John Mahama stated that when he is voted into power, he will free all galamsayers who were arrested.
Kwesi Botchway claims that this comment from the former president makes him dishonest since the country is currently fighting against galamsey activities.
“The former president in 2020 said that he will free galamsayers when he comes. He made that statement categorically that when he is voted into power he is going to free all persons convicted for galamsey. That is the former president’s position.
If my learned colleague described the president, Akufo-Addo as unreasonable, then I am free to say John Mahama is dishonest, he is untruthful and full of deceit.
The NPP communicator was responding to abusive comments hurled at President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo while discussing the issue of galamsey that is affecting the water bodies in the country.
Ghana Water Company Limited last weekend revealed in a statement that due to the galamsey activities at the River Pra, the plant has been unable to supply water to residents.
According to a statement issued on Friday, August 30, the ongoing illegal mining activities, known locally as “galamsey,” along the River Pra have drastically reduced raw water intake at the Sekyere Hemang Water Treatment Plant, causing significant disruptions in water distribution.
The statement revealed that the River Pra pollution has silted about 60% of the catchment area, compromising water quality. As a result, the plant, designed to handle a turbidity level of 2000 NTU, is currently dealing with an alarming 14,000 NTU.
This has slashed production capacity to a mere 7,500 cubic meters per day—only a quarter of the plant’s full capacity. GWCL apologized for the severe inconvenience caused and assured the public that efforts were underway to resolve the issue.
