Kurt Okraku, President of the Ghana Football Association, has acknowledged that seeking $2 million from a single company for the Ghana Premier League's headline sponsorship is unrealistic.

The league has been without a headline sponsor since betPawa withdrew midway through the 2023/24 season. Before that, there had been no headline sponsor since the league resumed following the Number 12 expose.

At a press conference on Friday, Okraku noted that while the league aims for significant sponsorship, it’s challenging to secure such large amounts from one company in today’s market. He suggested a more practical approach: targeting smaller contributions from multiple partners.

Okraku proposed that instead of focusing solely on a headline sponsor, the league could seek four partners, each contributing $500,000, to reach the desired $2 million. The Ghana Premier League is scheduled to start on September 6, 2024.

“But if you use the creative approach I’ve already explained and examine your cost lines, and start to consider cost lines with partners that fit those cost lines, you will see that if you’re looking for $2 million, you will end up raising $2 million.

“You will see it clearly. Alternatively, instead of giving yourself a headache by focusing solely on finding a headline sponsor, you could aim for four partners to each contribute $500,000.”

The Ghana Premier League is set to start on September 6, 2024.
