I endured 14 heartbreaks and a divorce – Lara Kudayisi opens up

When Nigerian influencer and therapist Lara Kudayisi sat down for a candid conversation on the Honest Brunch podcast, her story was as raw as it was inspiring.

Having endured 14 heartbreaks and a divorce, Lara opened up about the lessons she learned from navigating emotional pain.

Her willingness to take accountability and reflect on her role in these experiences stood out—a journey that ultimately transformed her perspective on love and relationships.

“I had to ask myself some hard questions,” she shared during the conversation. “Why was I attracting these situations? What was it about me that needed fixing?”

Lara’s words cut through the noise, resonating with anyone who has ever felt caught in an unending cycle of failed relationships.

She explained that it wasn’t about blaming herself but rather about understanding how her choices and unresolved issues played a part in her heartbreaks.

The repeated emotional wounds and her eventual divorce forced her to confront the deeper layers of her identity. Lara confessed that, for a long time, she sought validation and happiness from others without realizing that true healing had to come from within.

“Healing is not just about waiting for time to pass. It’s about actively doing the work to become the person you want to attract,” she explained, a truth she’s come to live by.

Drawing from her experience, Lara also highlighted the danger of staying in toxic relationships. For her, self-preservation became a vital step.

“If you’re in a situation where you’re constantly abused or mistreated, step back and reassess. Staying in harm’s way only damages you further,” she emphasized, her voice filled with both empathy and conviction.

For Lara, taking this step wasn’t easy, but it was necessary. She recognized that unresolved trauma often carries over into future relationships, creating a vicious cycle of pain and disappointment.

“I realized I couldn’t keep running away from myself. I needed to face my issues and heal,” she admitted. “Otherwise, I’d keep repeating the same mistakes, no matter who I was with.”
