In a candid and surprising moment during an interview on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo morning show monitored by MyNewsGH.com, Ghana’s Majority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, expressed his admiration for a prominent political rival—Johnson Asiedu Nketiah alias Mosquito, the current Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and former general secretary of the party.
Speaking with host Kwame Sefa Kayi, Afenyo-Markin didn’t hold back on acknowledging Asiedu Nketia’s political prowess.
“I know people might find this surprising, but Asiedu Nketia is a skilled strategist. In fact, I sometimes draw inspiration from his tactics,” Afenyo-Markin revealed.
He further elaborated, “In politics, you must learn from your opponents, and Asiedu Nketia is one of those figures whose moves always demand attention.”
Though they belong to opposing political camps, Afenyo-Markin praised the NDC chairman’s strategic mind, noting that Nketia has been instrumental in shaping the NDC’s political campaigns over the years.
He added, “Whenever Asiedu Nketia steps on the political stage, you can be sure he knows exactly what to say and do to achieve lasting results.”
The admiration didn’t stop there. Afenyo-Markin also highlighted Asiedu Nketia’s integrity and commitment to democracy, stating,
“Despite being on opposite sides, I respect his integrity and how he champions democracy within his party.
It’s something we all can appreciate, regardless of our political affiliations.”
This open recognition of Asiedu Nketia’s impact on Ghana’s political landscape stands out as a rare moment of camaraderie between two leaders from rival parties, with Afenyo-Markin openly acknowledging the positive traits of his long-time competitor.
Reflecting on the ongoing political battle between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the NDC, Afenyo-Markin said,
“We might be competing for power, but there’s always room to appreciate the brilliance of those you’re up against.
Asiedu Nketia is one of those individuals whose political moves shape the direction of our democracy.”
