The Ministry of Education (MoE) has announced a significant increase in the continuous professional development (CPD) allowance for pre-tertiary school teachers across the country.
Professional teachers will see their CPD allowance doubled from GHC1,200 to GHC2,400, while non-professional teachers will benefit from a 50% rise, with their allowance increasing from GHC800 to GHC1,200.
In a statement issued on Monday (30 September), the ministry confirmed that payments for the revised allowances have already been disbursed.
The government framed the move as part of its broader strategy to enhance the skills and knowledge of teachers.
“These enhancements reflect the government’s commitment to supporting teachers in pursuing professional development and skill upgrades, ensuring they are equipped with modern skills and knowledge to deliver effective teaching,” the statement read.
The CPD allowance, introduced in 2020, is intended to provide financial support for both professional and non-professional teachers to undertake training, acquire new teaching methodologies, and enhance their skills.
It forms part of the government’s efforts to improve the quality of education by fostering continuous learning among educators.
