The Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (GI-KACE) has announced an exciting initiative to equip Ghana’s youth with essential digital skills.
Collaborating with the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation (MoCD) and the World Bank, GI-KACE is set to launch the “eskills4Jobs” initiative, designed to address the digital skills gap and empower marginalised communities nationwide.
In a press release signed by the director general of GI-KACE, Dr Collins Yeboah-Afari, said the initiative is part of the broader Ghana Digital Acceleration Project (GDAP), aligning with the Government of Ghana’s commitment to enhancing Information and Communications Technology (ICT) as outlined in its “Coordinated Programme of Economic and Social Development Policies.”
The statement said the “eSkills4Jobs” initiative is poised to create new opportunities for the youth in Ghana, particularly for women and persons with disabilities (PwDs), who often find difficulties accessing digital technologies.
The first phase of the initiative is set to commence on 14 October 2024, targeting key regions including Greater Accra, Volta, Upper West, Eastern, Western North, Northern, Central, Ashanti, Bono, and Bono East.
Participants will receive practical training in various digital skills that are increasingly in demand across industries such as Digital skills for work, web technology, Data Analytics with Power BI, Graphic design and multimedia, Microsoft AI, Cyber Ops and Data science.
In addition to individual empowerment, “eskills4Jobs” seeks to create skills that promote digital transformation across key productive sectors. Dr. Collins Yeboah-Afari who has over 30 years of experience in Engineering, IT Service Management, Organizational Restructuring and IT Governance Frameworks has over the years led the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Center of Excellence in ICT (GI-KACE) to advocate for the Digital Transformation Agenda, committed to enhancing human capacity in the utilization of computing systems, the internet, and digital technology to foster economic inclusion and improve the quality of life for all.
With this initiative, GI-KACE is not just preparing individuals for jobs; it is also paving the way for a future where everyone can contribute to and benefit from technological advancements.
As Ghana embraces this new chapter in its digital transformation journey, one thing is clear: with initiatives like “eskills4Jobs,” no one will be left behind.
