Ghana Police Arrest 12 Suspects for Looting and Vandalism Following Election Unrest

The Ghana Police Service has apprehended 12 suspects in connection with looting and property damage across various regions of the country.

A statement issued by Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Assistant Commissioner of Police and Director of Public Affairs, revealed that initial investigations have confirmed the suspects’ involvement in attacks that caused significant damage to state property.

Among the incidents, the Electoral Commission (EC) office in Damango, located in the Savannah Region, was set on fire. Additionally, some residences of District Chief Executives (DEs) were damaged, and several collation centers were vandalized.

The statement further disclosed that some suspects unlawfully entered the School Feeding Project Warehouse in Tamale, Northern Region, where they stole various items, including foodstuffs.

“Footage of the attacks, vandalism, and looting has been obtained and is currently being reviewed by a team of dedicated investigators,” the statement continued, emphasizing that further arrests will be made to bring all perpetrators to justice.

The police have urged the public to remain calm, assuring them that officers have been strategically deployed to key locations and are conducting intensified patrols to maintain law and order.
