Closure of Land Borders: Days When Foreigners Come in to Vote Long Gone – Kpebu

Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu is of the firm opinion that closing land borders in Ghana does not make sense.

He is of the view that Ghana has advanced and moved on from the days when foreigners came in to vote during Ghana’s elections.

Martin Kpebu believes that Ghana’s democracy has grown and cannot accommodate foreigners who will come in and vote.

Therefore, the decision by the Interior Ministry to lock land borders does not make sense.

“When it comes to Aflao, the NPP when in power, closes it because they don’t want foreigners to come in and vote. But I’m thinking that we’ve moved on. We’ve made a lot of progress so I tend to side with senior Kwasi Pratt.

That listen, those days where you closed the border because non-Ghanaians were coming are gone. There are NPP reps at each polling station. Somebody comes in there and his name is not in the register, how is the person going to vote? That is why the police are also there so really it is better to appreciate the need for the closure at this time. 20 years ago we had a certain situation let’s see the vigilance was not so high,” he said.
