Schalke 04 sporting director, Marc Wilmots believes Ghanaian international Christopher Antwi-Adjei is eager for the challenge ahead after completing a move to the club.

The former Black Stars winger joined Schalke 04 as a free agent after leaving Bundesliga club Bochum following the expiration of his contract in his June 2024, ending his three-year stint.

The highly-profiled attacker penned a two-year deal that will keep him at Schalke 04 until June 2026.

He has been handed with the jersey number 18 and is expected to play a huge role for the Royal Blues this season.

“Christopher’s style of play and his personality are a good fit for our team. His pace and agility will help add more options to our game. He will also be able to help us with the experience that he brings to the table, both on and off the pitch,” Marc Wilmots said on behalf of the club’s sporting management.

“Christopher is eager to join us in taking up this new, special task of helping Schalke to continue moving forward.”

Antwi-Adjei has almost spent his entire career in Germany, featuring for a host of clubs including Paderborn and others. He brings a wealth of experience to Schalke 04 considering the number of clubs he’s played for in Germany.

Last season, the pacey Ghanaian winger made 25 appearances for Bochum, who narrowly escaped relegation and scored two goals, providing 2 assists across the period.

The winger has made just three appearances for the Black Stars since making his debut in November 2019.

Antwi-Adjei began playing for his hometown club, Fortuna Hagen, in 1999. He then featured for various youth sides at Hasper SV, MSV Duisburg, Eintracht Dortmund and Westfalia Herne, making his debut in the Oberliga Westphalia for the latter in 2013.

The Ghanaian international then moved to TSG Sprockhövel, before signing for SC Paderborn 07. While at Paderborn, he was part of the squad that won promotion twice in successive years, taking them from the third-tier league to the Bundesliga.

He was instrumental for Bochum during his spell, helping the club to maintain their status in the Bundesliga on three occasions.

Antwi-Adjei has managed 113 appearances in the German top-flight whiles making 62 appearances in the Bundesliga 2.
