A government accountability platform, “Tracka,” was launched on Wednesday (2 October), aiming to help citizens monitor public projects and enhance civic engagement.
Developed by the non-profit organisation BudgIT Ghana, the platform seeks to address the increasing number of abandoned projects and the gaps in accountability within government services.
“Tracka” provides citizens with the tools to track the progress and efficiency of public projects, with the broader goal of promoting transparency in governance.
At the launch event, BudgIT Ghana’s country director, Jennifer Moffatt, expressed optimism about the platform’s potential to drive change.
“There are a lot of discrepancies in the services that most of our government agencies provide and also a lot of abandoned projects, and we believe that this ‘Tracka’ will enhance public service delivery across the country and expand civic engagement,” she said.
Moffatt encouraged all Ghanaians to actively participate in using the platform, emphasising its role in fostering societal change through greater government transparency.
Mary Addah, executive director of the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII), also urged the platform’s managers to ensure that only accurate and credible information is shared.
“As you go into the field to document and implement the process, let integrity and honesty be a watchword; pick credible information that will be evidence enough so that when we advocate, no one will say we are misleading,” she said.
