Ama Dokua hosts Larteh Presby School in Parliament, inspires future leaders

Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Akuapem North, welcomed a group of enthusiastic students from Larteh Presby School to Parliament House on Friday.

The visit aimed to expose the students to the legislative process and inspire them to consider careers in public service.

The students were visibly excited as they explored the parliamentary chambers and engaged in lively discussions with Asiamah-Adjei.

The MP, who also serves as the deputy minister of trade and industry, shared insights into her role and the workings of parliament.

In a Facebook post following the visit, Asiamah-Adjei expressed her delight, stating, “It was such a pleasure hosting Larteh Presby School in Parliament this morning. Our interaction was very interesting and I got at least six of them expressing interest in a Parliamentary career in the future. The future indeed bright. God bless them all.”

These visits play a vital role in helping students understand the legislative process, promoting civic education, and inspiring future participation in governance. By providing a real-world glimpse into the workings of Parliament, the experience helped demystify the legislative process for the students and made it more relatable.

Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei, who also serves as the deputy minister of trade and industry, has been a trailblazer for women in politics. She stands as a role model for young females aspiring to enter the political arena.

Currently, she is campaigning for re-election in the Okaikwei North constituency in the Greater Accra Region, where her grassroots efforts are already yielding positive results. Her achievements in healthcare and education have garnered significant praise, highlighting her dedication to improving her constituents’ lives.

Despite Ghana’s history of seven successful elections since 1992, the representation of women in parliament remains inadequate.

Women constitute over 50% of the population, yet their parliamentary representation has historically been below the African average of 21% and well short of the UN-recommended 40% minimum threshold.

Asiamah-Adjei’s success and visibility underscore the need for increased female representation in governance and serve as a beacon for aspiring female politicians.
