Barely 90 days to the 2024 polls, MyNewsGh.com has confirmed that an Independent Parliamentary Candidate has emerged from the New Patriotic Party(NPP) in the Walewale Constituency of the North East Region.
The latest information gathered by this portal further worsens the woes of the party that is still struggling to settle on a Parliamentary Candidate after a legal tussle in which a ruling was given on Monday, September 2, 2024, ordering a re-run of the January 27, 2024 polls.
Barring any last-minute changes, MyNewsGh.com has gathered that the candidate who is seriously consulting some Chiefs and opinion leaders in the West Mamprusi Municipality, will soon unveil his vision for the area when he formally outdoors himself and his symbol in the coming weeks.
Though he declined to comment when reached by MyNewsGh.com, he disclosed that it was time residents of the area looked beyond political parties choosing a lawmaker for the area.
“You will get to know full details if I launch my campaign. This is not about a political party but about the welfare of the Walewale Constituency”, he said.
Court orders Re-run of NPP Parliamentary Primaries in Walewale
The Tamale High Court 1, presided over by Justice Richard Kogyapwah on Monday ordered a rerun of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Primaries.
MyNewsGh.com’s representative at the court said Full Judgement will be read on September 12, 2024.
This court case follows the current Member of Parliament (MP), Hajia Lariba Zuweratu’s decision to head to court to challenge the results of the NPP Walewale parliamentary primary.
Lariba Zuweiratu was narrowly defeated by Tia Kabiru, a special adviser to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, by just seven votes.
Following the court’s decision, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will today Tuesday, September 2, 2024, open nominations for the constituency and close on Thursday, September 5, 2024
Elections according to a statement from the NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua the rerun of the parliamentary primaries will take place on Sunday, September 8.
