Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Bagbin, has spoken on why God gave him a second term as Speaker.
According to him, there is a need to put things in place to ensure that parliamentarians, after serving the country, do not become broke and live a life of penury.
He noted that he has received complaints about the struggles of some former MPs, and there will be a need for some change in order to better the lot of parliamentarians.
Speaker Bagbin was speaking at a Thanksgiving gathering at his residence when he made this known.
He noted that parliamentarians have to use their resources to fund their campaigns back to parliament, a venture he described as frightening, hence the need to ensure that this changes.
Now people are looking back and seeing former MPs are all in penury, and so when you are in office and have the trappings of the office, see whether they can even ride a bicycle. People have spoken to me about it and we need to do something about it as a country; that is part of resetting Ghana.
It’s not only His Excellency the President that is resetting Ghana; we in Parliament will also need to reset Ghana. There are a lot of things that I need to put in place and I know that’s one of the reasons why God made it possible for me to continue the second term,” he said.
