The presidential candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has announced plans to establish a National Pilgrimage Authority aimed at regulating religious pilgrimages for both Muslims and Christians in Ghana.
This authority, he explains, will streamline and oversee trips to Mecca for Hajj and facilitate pilgrimages to Israel for Christian worshippers.
Addressing congregants at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church at Atimatim in the Afigya Kwabre South Constituency on Sunday (10 November), Dr Bawumia emphasized the importance of creating an organized, transparent system to manage these sacred journeys.
“This initiative will extend beyond benefiting only Muslims. It will also include Christian pilgrims wishing to travel to Israel. The National Pilgrimage Authority will ensure that all eligible individuals are supported in making this meaningful journey,” he stated.
He also praised the peaceful coexistence between Christians and Muslims in Ghana, urging all Ghanaians to work together to safeguard the country’s peace.
No to LGBTQ
The Vice President firmly expressed his opposition to LGBTQ+ activities in Ghana.
He underscored that the Islamic faith and other religions in Ghana oppose such activities. As a devout Muslim, he made it clear that he neither supports nor condones LGBTQ practices.
“I want to assure you that my government will not endorse such practices. It is not part of our values nor in Christian and Muslim teachings. It will destroy our country. It won’t happen under my watch”.
Appeal
Dr Bawumia took the opportunity to highlight the government’s achievements and appealed to Ghanaians to vote for him and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidates to continue the progress started by the Akufo-Addo administration.
“I am representing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in this year’s election, and I am here to ask for your support. Our record of achievements across all sectors makes our party the best choice to lead Ghana forward.
