Jamaican musician Vybz Kartel has been freed after twelve years of being behind bars.
He earned his freedom after a Jamaican Court of Appeal unanimously decided against a retrial in the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams, whose body was never found.
The judgement meant that Vybz Kartel and his confidants Shawn Campbell, Kahira Jones, and Andre St. John were free people.
“We conclude that the interest of justice does not require a new trial to be ordered,” the court read.
In videos available on social media, the musician was seen in the company of his family, who drove him in a limousine, and they were seen ecstatic.
Vybz Kartel and his confidants have been in jail since 2011 and were subsequently sentenced in 2014.
They were accused of the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams, whose body was never found.
