The Member of Parliament for the Ablekuma West constituency, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has commissioned a 30-bed capacity community hospital at Gbegbeyise in the Greater Accra region.
The community hospital has facilities such as an outpatient unit, paediatric unit, maternity ward, theatre, laboratory, emergency unit, dispensary and others.
The government is currently constructing a 100-bed hospital at Okweteke, Dansoman, under the Agenda 111 project.
Speaking at the commissioning of the community hospital on 3rd December 2024, Owusu-Ekuful said, “If we learn any lessons from history, we know that in this country, when one government takes over from another government apart from Akufo-Addo, none of them continues the projects that they inherited; we beg you, we want to finish that ‘Okweteke’ hospital.”
But Owusu-Ekuful believes the community hospital will relieve the current pressure on the Dansoman Polyclinic.
Municipal health director, Dr Amidah Rahmah, said the 30-bed capacity community hospital will improve healthcare delivery in the municipality. She commended the MP for Ablekuma West, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful for seeing to the completion of the facility.
Commissioning of Renovated Dansoman Special School
Ursula Owusu-Ekuful also commissioned a refurbished Dansoman Special School to improve the educational needs of children with special needs. The facilities include a staff common room, three classrooms, toilet facilities and a principal’s office.
Speaking at the program on 3rd December, Owusu-Ekuful said she was devastated by the initial condition of the school, especially considering the special needs of the pupils. She said it is important that all children, regardless of their circumstances, receive quality education.
The headmistress of the school, Charity Lariba Daboya, expressed gratitude for the gesture by the MP. She said ‘the facility was very bad so most children did not usually attend classes; some parents also refused to attend meetings. Daboya also called for a boarding facility to help increase enrolment at the school.
Call for votes
Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West constituency, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, called on constituents to vote massively for her and the NPP’s presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, on 7th December. She says their vote will ensure a continuance of developmental projects and a progressive country. She touted some of her achievements as an MP.
These include; the establishment of ICT centres for public schools, 1000 beneficiaries of Ursula Owusu-Ekuful Digital Skills Training programme, a sea defence project, the installation of over 4000 street lights, the Tunga basketball court, support for the Dansoman Table Tennis Association, a work and pay programme for the youth and other facilities and social programs.
