Bolgatanga East Member of Parliament, Dr Dominic Ayine, has described the Supreme Court’s decision to stay the ruling of the Speaker of Parliament as disturbing.
Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo Markin filed an exparte injunction at the Supreme Court for a stay of execution of Speaker Bagbin’s ruling in Parliament.
A five-member panel led by the Chief Justice sat on the matter and directed that the four Members of Parliament whose seats were declared vacant be directed to come back to Parliament to perform their duties.
Speaking on Accra-based TV3, the former Deputy Attorney General said “This is a very disturbing dev, for them to obtain to exparte motion meaning the parliament was not noticed. The order of the Supreme Court means parliament goes back to what it was before the speaker’s ruling.
“Basically you have tied the heads of Mr Speaker and Parliament., that shows that it is interfering with the work of legislature. There is a constitutional crisis.”
