Stop toying with the lives of young people and tell the truth—WAEC to Education Minister

Head of Public Affairs for the West African Examination Council (WAEC), John Kapi has questioned the Government of Ghana on why it is trying so hard to jeopardize the lives of young people.

He cannot fathom why the Education Minister, Yaw Adutwum, will peddle falsehoods about the release of WASSCE results.

John Kapi explains in an interview with Starr FM that the Minister who came to WAEC to apprise himself with development there did not have a formal discussion with the examination body.

All he came to do was to see the work going on and therefore indicates that it is scandalous for him to provide timelines for the release of the WASSCE results when no such discussion took place.

“There was no formal meeting on the way forward, so what do we do, when are they going to fix the machines, when are they going to be able to do this, nothing of the sort happened. Then he stepped out and spoke to the media and told them that we say we will release the results by 28 or 29 latest but WAEC has not issued any statement to that effect and so that is factually incorrect.

This is scandalous because, really why are we toying with people’s future? I didn’t want into go to that area. We have staff whose children have written the examination and we are all waiting for this results and release these results for everybody. We are also Ghanaians and we have wards that are also candidates and so if this is happening, it is not affecting just a third party somewhere, we are also affected and I think we should all be up and doing, tell the truth to the world and find a solution to it once and for all,” he told Starr FM in an interview.

Meanwhile speaking to the press after his visit to WAEC, the Minister in Charge of Education said “I came to apprise myself of development in terms of the fact that they are working now through the holidays to get the results out on or before 29th of this month. So I came and saw the workers; scanning is being done and close to 50% is done. They assure me that by the close of work today the remaining 50% scanning will be completed. About 29th of this month the results will come out”.
