An Energy Analyst and member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Nsafoah Poku has advised the protesters to move to mining areas and stage their demonstrations there instead of demonstrating in the capital of the country.
During a panel discussion on TV3 NewDay monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Kwadwo Poku said that the galamsey activities are not done by the government but the residents of the communities hence demonstrating in Accra is unnecessary.
“Let’s not sit in Accra and demonstrate. I’m sad to see people demonstrating in Accra when the real work is being done in the mining areas. The people doing the galamsey are not the government. It is the youth of the community who are doing the galamsey”. He disclosed.
He descended on Members of Parliament(MPs) of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) accusing them of fighting against government policies to win political seats.
While citing examples from 2019 to 2020, Kwadwo Poku said that people involved in galamsey activities paid Ghc1000 to residents in the Upper West Denkyira, Akwatia in Prestia Huni Valley, and Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira constituencies to vote against the NPP.
“Upper West Denkyira have never voted for the NDC before but now the MP for that constituency is Daniel Ohene Darko, and he is NDC. He told the people to vote NDC back and they will be allowed to do galamsey”. He alleged
Kwadwo Poku emphasized that the galamsey menace has escalated because Ghana didn’t have genuine partners to fight it.
