President Nana Akufo-Addo has described his tenure as Ghana’s head of state as the “greatest honour” of his life.
Delivering his final State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Friday (3 January), Akufo-Addo reflected on the challenges and triumphs of his presidency, which began in 2016.
He expressed gratitude to Ghanaians for entrusting him with the nation’s highest office.
“Serving the Ghanaian people as president has been the greatest honour of my life,” he declared.
“It has been one of great challenges and even greater triumphs, one that has demanded every ounce of my energy, commitment and love for our beloved country.”
Akufo-Addo, whose administration has overseen significant economic and social reforms, outlined his vision of a self-reliant, prosperous and united Ghana.
He remained confident that the foundations laid during his presidency would propel the country to new heights.
“My vision has always been to see a Ghana [that is] self-reliant, prosperous, and united—a beacon of hope, democracy and opportunity in Africa and beyond,” he said. “That vision remains undimmed, and I’m confident that the strides we have together will propel Ghana to even greater heights.”
As he prepares to leave office, Akufo-Addo’s legacy will undoubtedly be a subject of debate.
However, his unwavering optimism for Ghana’s future leaves a parting message of hope and determination for the nation.
