Some of your ministers and appointees are not in to serve – Manasseh Azure tells Mahama

In an open letter to President John Dramani Mahama, journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has called on the president to take immediate and decisive action against corruption within his administration.

While congratulating Mahama on his victory in the 2024 election, Awuni’s focus is on the need for a strong hand in dealing with ministers and appointees who may be more interested in self-serving agendas than in public service.

Awuni’s primary message to Mahama is clear: “Crack the whip.”

He warns that some of the president’s appointees may not be in office to serve the public, but to enrich themselves or further their own political ambitions.

He highlights that these individuals, driven by personal goals, may soon turn to corruption and misconduct.

“Some are in to make money and retire with you because they stand no chance of being in a future NDC administration,” Awuni writes. “Some have presidential ambitions and want to build war chests of resources to pursue their goals.”

In the face of this, Awuni urges the president to act swiftly. “With minds contaminated with selfish ambitions, some will soon start looting and misbehaving,” he warns, stressing that Mahama must not hesitate at the hint of scandal or misconduct.

By taking firm action, Awuni believes the president can save his administration from the same fate as previous ones that were marred by corruption and lack of accountability.

He recalls the example of a former president who used state security agencies to clear his appointees of involvement in illegal activities, only for those same individuals to later admit their wrongdoings.

Awuni asserts that Mahama must avoid repeating these mistakes by cracking down early on any signs of misconduct.

In conclusion, Manasseh Azure Awuni’s open letter is a strong call for President Mahama to lead with an iron fist when it comes to holding his appointees accountable. By maintaining strict oversight and enforcing consequences, he can prevent the emergence of a corrupt culture and ensure the success of his administration.
