Organized labour declares nationwide strike over galamsey

Organized Labour has declared a nationwide strike effective October 10, 2024.

The strike according to a statement issued by the Labour union is a result of the government’s failure to meet their demand for a halt to illegal mining activities in the country.

All workers in the country have been asked to leave their posts on Thursday, October 10, 2024.

The fight against illegal mining has become necessary after videos of the sordid state of rivers and some forest reserves hit the internet.

There have been calls from several associations for the president to declare a state of emergency in order to help fight the menace that is destroying water bodies across the country.

Some Ghanaians under the Democracy Hub umbrella hit the streets as a result and have since been incarcerated by an Accra Circuit court after engaging in some acts that were deemed unlawful.
