Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has pledged to streamline Ghana’s government by capping ministerial appointments at 50 if elected president.
Speaking at the NPP’s manifesto launch in Takoradi on Sunday (18 August) Bawumia emphasized that efficient governance does not require a large number of ministers.
“I will have no more than 50 ministers in my government,” Dr Bawumia stated, underlining his commitment to a more focused and efficient executive branch.
In addition, Bawumia revealed plans to shift from outright purchases to leasing essential goods, such as vehicles and printing equipment. This strategy aims to cut maintenance costs and save significant amounts of money annually.
“My government will move towards leasing rather than outright purchase of goods such as vehicles, printing equipment, and so on. The private sector will have the responsibility for maintaining the equipment. With this approach, the budget can save a very significant amount of outright cash expenditure annually from various items across the Ministries,” he explained.
