North East Region: Armed robbers attack mobile money vendor in Walewale

A mobile money vendor, identified as Mba Saaka, was attacked by two gunmen at Kukuazugu in Walewale in the North East Region on his way home from work.

The incident happened on Sunday (14 July 2024) when the robbers laid ambush at the victim’s residence, waiting for his arrival to expedite their actions.

The two armed robbers, after shooting indiscriminately into the air, then pointed the gun and a cutlass at the victim.

Asaase News learned that the two armed men who were on a motorbike fired warning shots before bolting with the victim’s unspecified amount of money, food, an iPhone, and the phone with the merchant sim he has been using for his daily transactions.

After the robbery on the 12 February this year, where the mobile money vendor was killed, Walewale township has not recorded any robbery cases until Sunday (14 July 2024).

The incident has since caused fear and panic in Walewale township, especially among mobile money vendors who cannot operate freely beyond 6pm without the assistance of the security agencies.
