Nana Soglo Alloh IV of the Likpe Traditional Council has been elected as the new President of the Oti Regional House of Chiefs in a very close contest.
Out of the 14 votes cast, he polled 8 while the incumbent, Nana Mprah Besemuna, secured six votes.
Nana Soglo Alloh IV takes on the responsibility of leading the traditional council in its efforts to promote peace, unity, and development within the region.
Speaking to the media, he expressed gratitude to the chiefs for their support.
He urged the chiefs to foster a harmonious environment and development.
The newly elected president highlighted prioritising peace and unity as key to driving development and coexistence among residents in the region.
“Prioritising peace and stability, the region can achieve sustainable growth and improve the quality of life for its residents. I want to use this opportunity to ask for a collective effort from other chiefs to address the pressing issues such as land disputes and resource management, which historically caused divisions among the chiefs,” he said.
Nana Mprah Besemuna of Krachi Traditional Council congratulated Nana Soglo and pledged his support for the new administration.
He said this gesture of goodwill is a positive sign for the future of the Oti House of Chiefs, as it sets the tone for a collaborative approach to leadership.
The vice-president-elect, Nana Obombo Lepuwura Sewura, also urged for unity among traditional leaders to foster development and economic growth.
According to him, the Oti Region is faced with many challenges notable among them being chieftaincy disputes which are retarding the purpose of the creation of the region.
The election, which was conducted on Monday )30 September) was conducted in a serene atmosphere.
Nana Odamba Tidibom Kowura, Nana Dasebre Oduro Kruanim and Nana Mprah Besemuna were all elected as members of the House Chiefs.
The Oti regional minister, DSP Rtd Daniel Machator congratulated the newly elected members and advocated for peace and unity in the region.
He appealed to the chiefs to be united and work together to build a better future for all residents of the region.
