A total of 9,575 students are graduating from the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) in the First Session of the 29th Congregation, which began on Tuesday, December 17 and will end on Saturday, December 21. A total of 9,575 students are graduating from the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) in the First Session of the 29th Congregation, which began on Tuesday, December 17 and will end on Saturday, December 21.
The graduating students successfully completed their various programmes of study at the University and its Study Centres.
Out of the number, 250 students, being 2.6 per cent, will receive diplomas, while 8,371 (87.4 per cent) are first degrees, and 954, representing 9.9 percent, will get postgraduate degrees.
In the first degrees category, 812 students (9,7 percent) obtained first class, 2,775 (33.2 percent) had second class upper, 2,949 (35.2 percent) had second class lower, 1,505 (18.0 percent) third class, and 330 students (3.9 percent), obtained a pass.
On Tuesday, December 17, students from the Faculty of Social Sciences Education (FSSE), Distance Education Centres: Accra Academy, Accra College of Education (ATTRACO), Accra St. John Grammar, Accra Wesley Girls, Asamankese, Assin Fosu, Atebubu, Axim, Bechem, Cape Coast, Dambai and Denu graduated.
On Wednesday, December 18, the Faculty of Science Education, School of Education and Life-Long Learning, Faculty of Applied Behavioural Science in Education, and Distance Education Centres: Tema, Wa, Winneba and Yendi graduated.
The Faculty of Health, Allied Sciences and Home Economics Education, School of Business, School of Communication and Media Studies, Faculty of Environment and Education, Science Education, Applied Sciences and Mathematics Education, Vocational Education, Technical Education, and Education and Communication Sciences will graduate on Thursday, December 19.
Others are the Education and General Studies in Kumasi Campus, Faculty of Science Education (Mampong), Environment and Health Education (Mampong), Distance Education Centres at Ejisu, Enchi, Ho, Hohoe, Kasoa, Koforidua, Kumasi AAMUSTED, Kumasi Islamic Senior High School and Mampong AAMUSTED.
On Friday, December 20, Students from the Faculty of Foreign Languages Education, Faculty of Ghanaian Languages Education, School of Graduate Studies-PGDE (Distance), Distance Education Centres: Navorogo, Nkawkaw,Obuasi, Odumase Krobo, Offinso, Pusiga, Sefwi Wiawso and Sefwi Debiso will raduate.
On Saturday December 21, Students from the School of Creative Arts, School of Graduate Studies, Distance Education Centres: Sekondi, Sogakope, Sunyani, Twene Amanfo Senior High School, Tamale (Batco), Tamale (Nobisco) and Tarkwa Techiman will graduate.
Prof Stephen Jobson Mitchual, UEW Vice Chancellor, highlighting some of the key activities and accomplishment of its exceptional graduating class of 2024, said the 29th Congregation was a testament to the enduring legacy of UEW, as a trailblazer in shaping the future of education in Ghana and beyond.
“It signifies the culmination of countless individual stories of perseverance and collective chapter in the ever-expanding book of the University achievements.”
The UEW was advancing its infrastructure with several key projects, including Graduate school block at the North Campus, GUSS Hostel at Sites 1 and 3, University Hospital at Winneba, Faculty Block at Ajumako Campus, and new study centers at Cape Coast, Kumasi and Koforidua-Kukurantumi, he said.
“Plans are well underway to construct a state-of-the-art sports complex and upgrading of roads, strengthening the university’s academic and research capabilities, enhance the teaching and learning environment as well as addressing critical needs of the student’s and the staff,” he said.
On infrastructure, Prof Mitchual stated that the university had made significant strides in Information and Communication Technology infrastructure, advancing its Smart Campus agenda to enhance academic, administrative and health care operations.
He advised the graduates to use the knowledge acquired to pursue excellence, be resilient and contribute to transformational change.
“As we reflect on the past and look towards future, let us remember that this ceremony is not an end in itself but a means to an end.”
“It is the launchpad for new adventures, new challenges and new opportunities to make a difference in communities and beyond”.
The Vice Chancellor said the world was changing rapidly and the skills acquired were just the foundation that must ginger the graduates to keep on learning, stay curious and embrace adaptability.
“Class of 2024, the future is calling and awaiting you to answer with purpose and passion, hence the need for you to go out there and make us proud”.
